take a walk where the locals go on this orientation of the historic center
Join us for a lively walk around the city’s diverse barrios and major monuments where the smells, sights and sounds of everyday life can only be experienced on foot. We take quaint alleyways and sidestreets to reveal the layers of history that have transformed Lisbon over the ages. Our departure point makes the most of quiet views from a beautiful terrace known as a Miradouro.
This is an excellent orientation to the city and reveals hidden stories behind historic city center sights, which few visitors ever hear. Discover major sights and quaint old quarters and public squares popular with locals. Along the way we explore ruins of the roof-bare Carmel Church, clues to Portugal’s “Carnation Revolution,” and the great earthquake of 1755. Learn about typical Portuguese foods, customs and celebrations.
Walk past towering Baroque churches, and local boutique shops that give the city its unique character. With one of our personable guides you will discover the real Lisbon beyond the major tourist spots. Our guides are also foodies and always happy to share in a Portuguese drink, pastry or suggest cafes and restaurants for those who are interested, and request a stop for these items. We will always go inside of an important monuments...not just churches.
This excursion is for those who want an insiders look at Lisbon, traversing the city like locals, walking through car-free squares, with breathtaking vistas, famous cafes and rich personalities that define the City of Explorers. At the end of the tour, our guides are happy to assist with other sights to explore and restaurants, while avoiding the area tourist traps.

why walk In lisbon?
Because that’s what locals do. Portuguese are among Europe’s biggest walkers! A Eurobarometer survey published in 2014 revealed that Portugal is among the countries where making daily routine trips by foot is most common. To really know Lisbon one must go into those small maze-like streets of the city’s old quarters, where automobiles are limited and real life unfolds in pedestrian friendly streets and squares.

This is not a tour of places that are hidden out of sight. It is a tour of places and monuments in the historic center, and their hidden history.
Beware of free and budget tours: Many free and budget-priced tours in Lisbon do not take their guests inside of the monuments and museums. This is because they do not have the proper authorization to give tours as guides, and they are not permitted to speak inside. Sadly, visitors to Lisbon who take budget tours often miss the riches inside of these special places.
